running 2.6.5mm kernel

killed X, ran emerge nvidia-glx nvidia-kernel, edited XF86Config to replace nv with nvidia, now when i X comes up a green screens shows up and i have to reboot the machine ;-(

any suggestions? im kind of thinking it could be the kernel that isn't allowing me to install the nvidia drivers correctly but i could be wrong. ive ran a search through the forums and didn't find anyone with my problem, sorry if this is a repeat.

thanks

Apparently the NVIDIA binary drivers don't work with the 4K Stacks patch that was recently added to the mm kernel.

You should be able to disable 4K stacks (CONFIG_4KSTACKS) in your kernel config, or use a kernel without this patch (such as development-sources-2.6.5_rc3).

as far as edited my .config file what do i need to do? can i just manually edit the .config file and recompile the kernel? if so what do i do to take this option out just delete/comment out the line?

Change the line to:

Code:
CONFIG_4KSTACKS=N

Did you remember to run "opengl-update nvidia" after installing the drivers??

If I forget to do this after re-compiling my kernel I get a screen full of strange ascii characters requiring a full reboot.
