|
|
Hello. I'm new to the Gentoo Community. I've toyed around with Mandrake, Redhat, Suse and Lycoris and wanted a source-based Linux solution. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far in Gentoo.
My install went flawless through the bootstrap. After the bootstrap, one of my downloads froze during the emerge system command.
What is the proper way to force the system to retry the download?
I, after waiting a while and not knowing what to do, hit ctrl-alt-delete. The system went to init state 6 and then sat there. I hit F2 to see the verbose command and found that the system was continuing to emerge. It's still going right now. Will it reboot at completion? If so, what's the best way to get back to the point where I was?
Thanks for your help! I tried searching the forum and couldn't find the answer to these questions.

I'm not sure if it will reboot or not after the emerge, but if it does reboot and you need to get back to where you were follow the mounting procedures described in section 4e of the Gentoo handbook. Then you need to chroot. To do so, follow section 6a of the Gentoo handbook. |

So you'd boot off the CD, setup the network, remount, chroot, and then pickup where I left off.
Do you think I'll have to "emerge system" again? It looks like it's working fine now. I just don't know what happened with the stalled download.

Well, I answered my own question. Ctrl-C knocks you out of emerge, including a stalled download. My system did not reboot. I was able to run emerge system again and pick up where I left off.

If its a problem with a particular mirror, try using mirrorselect to choose the fastest mirrors. It say how to do this in the install guide. |
