I hope this one fixes the major breakage created for me by the newly rewritten Intel e100 NIC driver in 2.6.4. Basically, it doesn't work at all on my laptop and I was forced to downgrade to 2.6.3 (eepro100 has never worked for me on this machine ever). I'm just hoping they don't find any more security bugs in 2.6.3 before the driver gets fixed in the newer versions. I saw only one e100 bugfix in the changelog, but I didn't watch the changes for the rc versions of 2.6.5. Dunno, hope this fixs it. If anyone else knows whether this is the case, please post. I'll try it tomorrow. |

?
The changelog lists changes from 2.6.4 to 2.6.5, so changelogs of RCs don't matter!? |

RC = release candidate, normally those are promoted to the final without any changes, yust to see if nothing blocks in the way... Too bad not many programmers use it that way. _________________ {Linux User #333296}

Did you have the 4K stacks option enabled? Some of the -mm kernels forced that option on, and it broke the nvidia driver. |

uh, i know what an RC is, and i guess Mnemia too.. i was just saying, the changelog of 2.6.5 doesnt include only the changes since the last RC but all the changes since 2.6.4.. |

Good question
I will try and see if that solves the problem. I wasn't aware it was on by default, and I know I didn't set it manually. _________________ Lila themes | The Porthole Portage Frontend | SVG-Utils |

Kernel 2.6.5 ( Vanilla ) and Nvidia-kernel/glx 1.0.5336-r1 works great here.

Btw, bootsplash works even though the patch exits with an error. _________________ When in danger,

Theres one imo weird thing, in addition to the Intel i440x and i8xx chipset support, theres now a special option for i865 chipsets - according to the help, i875 owners should still use the i8xx stuff, even though theyre kinda the same chipsets?
plus the help of the i865 support mentions intel chipsets with EM64T support - though i875 supports that aswell? this is very confusing... |

BTW, you have to reverse the 4k-stacks-always-on.patch before you can turn it of manually as that patch removes the option from menuconfig. _________________ [size=9]We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. |

This vanilla kernel works fine with my nvidia gforce4, whereas I've had issues with all the 2.6.5-mm/love etc kernels. _________________ Bunder for president ^o^ |

That's because 4Kb stacks isn't on by default in vanilla like in mm.(And love also applies mm patches) _________________ [size=9]We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. |

BTW, another nice thing to mention, 2.6.5 includes a new module w83627hf, which supports not only reading but also setting of the fanspeeds of w83627hf/thf etc controlled fans, one example for this is the often used Asus P4P800.. |
