I got only the awful black-colored cursor like Knoppix, don'T know where the hell it came from.

But i have had a working other Xcursor, like described everywhere installed in ".icons".
But now, without changing something but "emerge world" (updated X), the Xcursor is gone.

What's so different now, that it doesn't use them?

Tried editing the /usr/share/cursors/xfree/default/index.theme file? That always works for me. It does set the cursor globally, but all my users use the same cursor anyway...

Code:
bash-2.05b$ cat /usr/share/cursors/xfree/default/index.theme
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=core
bash-2.05b$

What do i have exactly to paste here?
"theme=xyz"? And what about the path? And which script reads this out?

Code:
$ ls /usr/share/cursors/xfree/
Bluecurve          default  gentoo-blue    handhelds  whiteglass
Bluecurve-inverse  gentoo   gentoo-silver  redglass

Code:
$ cat /usr/share/cursors/xfree/default/index.theme
[Icon Theme]
Inherits=whiteglass

So, you write the name of the folder where you have your cursors. Path is unnecessary.
