Instead of having to type 'dhcpcd eth0'' every time I start Gentoo, what can I edit so that this is automatic? Thanks.

in /etc/conf.d/dhcp write : IFACE="eth0"

oh, sorry, that was for the DHCP-server.
For the client edit /etc/conf.d/net
