I currently work at an engineering firm which uses ALL windows machines to run AutoCAD. Right now I'm looking for an inventory program that will run as a service on each windows machine, but collect it on my gentoo server. I searched through the forums here & searched on Freshmeat but didn't find a cross platform inventory monitor.
Please let me know if anyone knows of any or maybe one that I over looked.
thanks

I would say that thare are going to be very few, if any programs out there to "Inventory" a MS network and store the information on a linux server. I assume this is for licensing issues. I had to do the same procedure a few years back but for the life of me, I cannot remember the exact program I used, and of course it would only log the data to an MsSQL Windows Server. I would suggest a google search like the one below:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=software+licensing+inventory+program&btnG=Google+Search
If this does not help, let me know, and I will see if I can dig up the program that we used. |

You can use "Ocs Inventory" or Everest Professional in a samba directory ![Smile :-)](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

We have started to deploy OCS Inventory. And it's really amazing. We have for instance 30 machines running the OCS client (windows, linux, aix) and it works almost fine (setup issues but it should be resolved soon). It will really help us out at work. _________________ "Unix IS user friendly... It's just selective about who its friends are." Tollef Fog Heen tollef@add.no |
