Hello, I've been trying everything I found on Google, but I can't get my laptop to recognize my wireless card as such. It's obviously there:
Code: |
# lspci
...
01:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4310 UART (rev 01)
...
|
and ifconfig eth0 shows that it is indeed an ethernet card:
Code: |
# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:16:D3:08:69:F5
UP BROADCAST NOTRAILERS MULTICAST MTU:1400 Metric:1
RX packets: 0 (all packets stats are 0)
Interrupt:16 Base address:0xa00
|
I have bcm43xx compiled into the kernel, and have the Windows XP 64-bit driver (ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_1500/drivers/80211g.zip) loaded under ndiswrapper. Still nothing:
Code: |
# iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions
eth1 no wireless extensions
tunl0 no wireless extensions
sit0 no wireless extensions
|
During the LiveCD install, I was able to use the card as a "wired" card, i.e. by plugging it into an ethernet cable.
I have net.eth0 and net.eth1 symlinks in /etc/init.d pointing at net.lo, and a rudimentary setup in conf.d, but as I understand my problem, those are best set aside until my card is actually detected as a wireless card.
If it helps, I'm dual-booting the (single) drive with Windows XP, and Windows finds and uses the card just fine. |

As far as I know, you should be using either ndiswrapper or the bcm43xx drivers in the kernel, not both, and everything I've read says it's better to compile it as a module.
In case you haven't checked this already, the most current info on the bcm43xx drivers is in this thread (in the PPC forum):
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-409194.html
I was able to get my BCM4306 working by following the procedure in the first post; not sure what's different about the BCM4310, but at the very least, the wireless portion should work using those steps. _________________ "Give a man a fire and he's warm for one night, but set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life..." |

After searching high and low, it seems that the cards that people have gotten working have been BCM4318 (Airforce One) and BCM4306 -- very few actually have BCM4310, and those that do have it working aren't using 64-bit processors. ndiswrapper says the hardware's there, but it's detected as a UART, not a wireless card. I think my best option will be to get an intel card (3945 a/b/g) or a broadcom 4318/4306. If you have any other solutions, please do tell - I'd rather not buy a card if I don't need to. |
