I've installed Gentoo and still have to configure XF86 properly but at the moment when i'm loged in as a user in KDE and i go to a Terminal and type "su" and enter my root password is says permission denied. This means that at the moment if i want to do any administrative procedures or anything that requires root privialges i have to log out and log back in as root. Any ideas?

Yes. Put your username into the "wheel group" in /etc/group and go read again the installation guide.
