|
|
I have both KDE installed, as well as Gnome. I prefer to use KDE, but there are a few gnome applications (such as evolution, eclipse, and mozilla firefox) which I cannot live without. When I login to gnome, I set my theme to be something like "thin" or "simple". This works fine. However, when I login to kde, and run a gnome application, I get the default square blah theme that comes with gnome, not my "simple" theme. How do I get gnome applications to use the theme I selected while running gnome? |

Either:
1.USE="gtk2" emerge gtk-theme-switch
or
2. run gnome-settings-daemon on KDE startup(add a small script to ~.kde/Autostart)
Also turn off "apply KDE colors to other applications" in the KDE Control Center (under Colors)
I think #1 is advantageous because gnome-settings-daemon might muck with other things that KDE handles, like fonts, keyboard mappings, etc.. |

switch2 and gnome-theme-manager will have weird conflicts with each other if you try to use them both to set a GTK theme. When I use non-Gnome window managers I always rm ~/.gtk* and then use switch2 and it works OK so long as I don't try to use Gnome again. |

you don't need to have any part of gnome running while in KDE to get nice gtk2 themes with apps. All you have to do is place a file named .gtkrc-2.0 in your home directory then edit it to your favorite theme & font. Now all your gtk+ apps use that gtk+ theme, even in KDE.
Here is my .gtkrc-2.0
Code: | gtk-font-name = "Bitstream Vera Sans 10"
include "/home/ben/.themes/WinXP-Silver/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" |
and a screen shot. _________________ True trade is honest, but not merciful. Politics is dishonest, no matter how merciful... and war is neither honest nor merciful.... therefore, choose trade above politics, but politics above war. |

Well, Thanks very much for all your answers. I tried sparks way (using the .gtkrc-2.0 file) and it works flawlessly |

I can't beleive it's that easy to get gtk 2 apps showing up in KDE, it's been daunting me for a year now.
One thing, is it possible to make it use bold text? I tried appending BOLD but ended up getting no text.
gtk-font-name = "Comic Sans MS 10 BOLD"
Suggestions?
And thanks for solving this for me, it's one of the main reason I still use gnome. Who knows now? _________________ *Fortitudo, aequitas, fidelitas.* |

gtk-font-name = "Comic Sans MS Bold 10"
That did the trick! Very nice! _________________ *Fortitudo, aequitas, fidelitas.* |

ahh!! this is just lovley! someone should make this a LOT easier, by making som kgtkswitch or something, that writes to the file. also, I like having kde changing the colors, as long as I choose the theme :) _________________ Macbook Pro 15"
