xsane et al wont compile

Hi,

I tried to downgrade from ~x86 version of xsane (currently 0.93) to stable 0.91

emerge fails saying SANE 1.0.0 or later is needed.

Now I try to recompile 0.93 and I get the same error. Equally anything sane now gives the same error.

What do I need to do??

quickpkg cant find a match for sane , what is missing?
