Hi,

Today my machine would not boot and would stay stuck at "starting pci hotplugging". I managed to boot on the livecd and chroot to my install, to first rc-update del hotplug, then look at why it would hang. I found this in my logs:

Code:
Apr  8 10:45:35 charm hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_add
Apr  8 10:45:35 charm hsfpcibasic2: Unknown symbol cnxthsf_cnxt_serial_remove
Apr  8 10:45:36 charm modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting hsfpcibasic2 (/lib/modules/2.6.3-gentoo-r1/misc/hsfpcibasic2.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

I have not yet debugged why the insertion of the module fails, but it should definitely not hang the starting of hotplug, and the rest of the boot sequence.

Is this a bug, and if so a known bug?

I'm using hotplug-20040105 and hotplug-base-20040401.

I encoutered this same behaviour yesterday, and found finally out that this seems to be a hsflinmodem-problem, and not related to hotplug.

There is something fishy with those modules istalled by hsflinmodem -package which starts an infinite loop of modprobe trying to install them when pci hotplugging starts.

See what is in your current kernel versions's /lib/modules/kernel-version/misc/ and add those modules into /etc/hotplug/blacklist to prevent this freeze to happen.

If anyone knows how those modules can be installed with 2.6.9 -series kernels, I would appriciate some advice. Thank you in advance.

Had this problem myself, edited modules.d/hsf to fix it.
