dunque da utente normale ho lanciato sto programma, ho messo messages a 777 e poi ho provato a fare pure qualche accesso al webserver, ma non mi visualizza nulla che sbaglio?
root-tail -g 80x25+100+50 /var/log/messages,green /var/log/apache2/access_log,red,'ALERT'

Non e' che con -g 80x25+100+50 vai fuori dallo schermo?
EDIT: prova con -g 200x6+10-10

è normale che il root tail nn si veda in kde ma si veda in fluxbox e ancora nn si veda in xfce4 ?

Penso che possa dipendere dal fatto che imposto lo sfondo dopo aver avviato root-tail.
Se lo avvi manualmente da konsole o dal terminale di xfce cosa succede?

Ho provato questo programma un po' di tempo fa e non era possibile utilizzarlo con kde.

Eterm -x --scrollbar no -a "toggles buttonbar false" --shade -1
Poi con un comando tipo watch o simili che nn conosco credo sia possibile vedere un tail aggiornato del file ^_^ ogni tot ... che ne pensate?

Se usi karamba o superkaramba puoi facilemente scriverti un plugin che legga da file a intervalli di tempo regolari.

root-tail con gnome e kde non va a meno di workaround.la soluzione semplice e'
- se usi gnome , usare le gdesklets
- se usi kde, superkaramba
per entrambi, Eterm e fargli eseguire anziche lal shell, un comando. ad es. tail -f /var/log/messages
