Hi all,
I have a Compaq Armada E500, but its sound device doesn't work... now, what packages do I have to emerge and which settings do I have to set to make it work?
Thanks in advance

grep audio /proc/pci says I have a ESS somewhat audio device. But xmms isn't able to use it and says: "Check if your soundcard is properly configured (...)". I'll try alsa now, let's see if it works.... |

I'm almost positive I had my E500's sound working in OSS. Unfortunately for you, I don't have the laptop anymore, and I didn't save a kernel config. I think it used the ESS Maestro / 2 / 2E driver. |

[solved]
Thanks, it works now, using alsa (though alsa gave me some headaches, too....). And yes, it is the Maestro 2 driver, thank you Jake . |

So DFY
So how did you fix it... I'm in the process of installing it on my Compaq E500 laptop... I've tried several times to install it on my Compaq EVO N600c but when it time to complie the kernel the laptop will overheat and shutdown... _________________ Roland |
