|
|
I have already updated to Gentoo 1.4 and I picked the gentoo kernel. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what patches this kernel has and its benefits over a vanilla kernel. I thought at first that it was already configured with a certain set of options but per the install documentation I am assuming not.
Thanks

If you have it emerged, look in /usr/doc/gentoo-sources-2.4.19-r9/patches.txt.gz (assuming you're using the r9 kernel).
If you don't want to wait for the long download of the kernel, send me a private message and I'll mail it to you. _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

Is there a way to read that file without unzipping it first?

Looking at the ebuild it builds this file from the patch files. You can give me your email and I'll mail the file to you (you can use a private message for it). _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

Oops, misunderstood the question, I thought he was talking about unzipping the kernel sources. _________________ There's someone in my head but it's not me - Pink Floyd |

But maybe it is the case. I just wanted to cover all possibilities

from what i saw alot of the kernel configuration was already done. i.e: the /devfs was already selected. |

If only thats all we ever had to do!
Btw, I highly recommend the gentoo kernel line - I think they're derived from the Alan Cox line, and they've been nothing but excellent stability and radical functionality for me so far.
