Hi I've been trying to get my ati-drivers running for a while now.

In vesa mode everything works like a charm. I can start X go into kde blah blah.

But then I try to add the "fglrx" drivers the the XF86Config-4 file and X won't start anymore.

I have seen lots of pages on the board where it gets explained. But I can't find anyone who just posted their XF86Config-4 file so others could copycat on the contents.

So here is my question:

Can someone with a ati Radeon 9800 who is using Xfree 4.3 post his or her Xfree86Config-4 file? or point me where I might be wrong in my own (posted below) I also posted the error log of XFree

I tried with the usefasttls... it still won't work//... keep getting the exact same error.
Can't find any "critical differences" in our 2 config files.

very strange. my agp seems to work (with my intel chipset) my fglrx module is loaded... but everytime I try startx I get this error

can't be my screens because I know 1 of em is on pci 1:0:0 and the other is on pci 1:0:1



Yes I triend opengl-update ati severall times.

try enabling dga (comment disbale dga extension out). its only broken for some few versions of the driver and generally a good thingy (I think ;-)

and what does dmesg say after you tried running X?

I solved the problem.

Didn't really know what it was about. I took the kernel 2.6.3 config from my laptop and put it on mij normal box and compiled the 2.6.5-r1 kernel with it. (didn't feel like reconfiguring the kernel completely) emerged xfree, emerged ati-drivers and started fglrxconfig after that opengl-update ati.

Now my glxgears score is about 3500 with a radeon 9800 (128MB) on a p4 1.7 with 768MB (sdram). Don't think thats a bad score.
