Hi i have an asus v9180 which has geforce4 mx440 chip. Before using gentoo i used mandrake 9.1.
After making emerge nvidia-kernel amd nvidia-glx i did whatever has told on installing it. But when i start X my box hangs up and have to restart it. First i changed the glx out, still the same so then changed back to nv (default) driver. But the driver was just working fine on mandrake.
I think i made a mistake on compiling the kernel. As i read from this forum i mustn't enable nvidia options to make bootstrap work, so i didn't.
Does it have any effect?
Does the nvidia driver patches the kernel?
I short what could i have done wrong and how can i fix it?
Thanks for your help... |

I have had the exact same problem and I can't figure it out either. Does anybody have any ideas to at least point me in the right direction as to what could potentially be going wrong?
I don't even know where to start at this point. |
