When I try to open the WMV file in nautilus, a dialogue window pops up, and says:
Code:
Cannot open sample.wmv

The filename "sample.wmv" indicates that this file is of type "Microsoft WMV video". The contents of the file indicate that the file is of type "MS ASF video". If you open this file, the file might present a security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the correct extension for "MS ASF video", then open the file normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific application for the file.

In case of opening the ASF file, no dialog window pops up.

Well, I have experienced the similar problem with the AVI file, but that problem was solved by itself when I emerged a new share-mime-info package.

Is this a bug of shared-mime-info?

Yeah, that little dialog box is annoying as hell..

I initially thought, "Oh, the site that I downloaded this video from obviously messed up their file extension", and I renamed the video to .asf, and all goes well on the doubleclick...

But it happens for *every* wmv file I have, and it's annoying.

Is there any fix for this yet?

I get this with some MP3 files also. It insists they are WAV files. So I try renaming the extension and it plays fine in XMMS.

Then I look at the properties of the file in XMMS's info screen, and it was indeed an MP3.

Has anyone been able to fix this? Disabling the mime dialogue completely would be fine.

bump!

Having this problem too, I hoped that it would go away with the new version (2.8) of Gnome... But it did not - any possibility to turn off this "security"-feature?

bye

I found a bug, which exactly describes this behaviour:

http://freedesktop.org/bugzilla/long_list.cgi?buglist=397

To my surprise the bug is marked as RESOLVED (as in Gnome 2.8)! Well, not for me... :( Any hints?

Just want to mention that this issue seems to be resolved in the latest Gnome-update...
