Which will yield more performance? I currently use agpgart, and I have no problems with it. Will there be a noticeable increase/decrease in performance if I switch to NvAGP? |

That depends on a lot of factors; your motherboard chipset, your video card chipset, which company made the board, what zodiac sign your computer was built under, and a lot of other things. The only way to find out for sure is to test both configurations. On my machine, they're about equal in performance, but agpgart is more stable. |

Then I guess I'll stick with agpgart, since it happens to be GPL... |

I only can use agpgart when I load it with:
agpgart agp_try_unsupported=1
and, then I can't unload it anymore. When I leave X and want to get into it again -> no way.
For me, the nvidia modules work much better and it is also possible to unload them again.
AND: Switching for GUI to console back to GUI never worked with agpgart but works "okay" with nvidia. It always need 1-2 secs to redraw the GUI when I come back from console, but then everything is fine.
And performance is much better with nvidia module, just my stupid motherboard doesn't support AGP Sideband Adressing or AGP Fast Write, so I can't use this as performance improvements [But the card and nvidia driver would be able to enable it ] |

Don't say that just by reading his post. You are going to have to test it out on your machine, everyone's is different. Some ppl can't even run agpcart on their machine and others cang run nvagp.
Truly, the only way to find what works best with your is try it. Add Quote: | Option "NvAGP" "1" | to your config to try it, I think a 2 will use agpcart and a 3 will try one and first (don't remmeber which, and then the load the other if that failed. _________________ Join the adopt an unanswered post initiative today |

I justed switch to xorg and the nvidia module still works nicely
And the Option "NvAGP" "x"
x:
1 -> agpgart
2 -> nvidia
3 -> agpgart and the nvidia
Guess what, I'm using x = 3 in my config, but it won't load until I change my config file to tell it that my card is unsupported. When ever there will be a kernel that has a agpgart that can really support my gfx-card, I will be automatically using it.
And BTW: Does it really hurt you to use a binary only nvidia driver, instead of a GPL'd one? What did hurt was the poor performance of the agpgart module, so that I was glad that the nvidia module worked so well! |

they can hold up to 5 giga-quads of information, for increased bandwidth you might want to upgrade to an AGP horse-and-cart |

ROFLMAO
That was great.
Mystic0, in case you are being seriuos, agpcart is more or less a module, and you can't buy it. You can buy an AGP Video Card and you can buy a motherboard with a AGP slot, but that is about it. ![Razz :P](images/smiles/icon_razz.gif) _________________ Join the adopt an unanswered post initiative today |

I somehow don't think s/he was being serious but rather trying to point out the misspelling of "agp[b]g/b]art" in a humourous way. ![Wink ;)](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ moo |
