I started my compile about 7:00 am this morning, and now, nearly nine hours later, it's still compiling. What's up? I'm running a XP-1800 with 512MB RAM and a WD 60G harddrive; plenty of speed! Is this normal, or should I just kill it? If I do, won't I have to do an awful lot of cleanup? Thanks!

That does seem a little long, but what else had to compile to get kde3.1b dependencies solved? Was X ready to go anf up to date? etc etc... Did you do an 'emerge kde -p' before starting the process to see what was going to be compiled? If it is compiling away successfully, why would you want to stop it?

If you log in on another console and do a "emerge --pretend kde", what list do you get? This way maybe you could see on what package it "hangs".

It was an upgrade from a fully installed 3.0.4; whatever the problem was, it's done now. Thanks for your input!
