|
|
I've put the Familiar with GPE on my iPaq, but I'm having a hard time getting connected to my Gentoo desktop. My device is basically useless without some way to put files on there, so it's kinda important to me to get this working.
I installed off the CF card by copying the files over when I still had PocketPC and ActiveSync. I don't have a serial cradle, and I don't want to buy one. I don't think I need one anyway, if I can get the usb networking going.
I have the ck 2.6.4 kernel, with the usbnet and ipaq modules. When I put the ipaq in the cradle while it's turned on, dmesg gives me:
dmesg wrote: | usb0: register usbnet at usb-0000:00:10.1-2, Linux Device |
But then it seems to freeze the device.
If the device is turned off nothing happens when I put it in the cradle, and nothing seems to happen if I turn it on in the cradle either.
If the ipaq is in the cradle when I boot, the usb0 device appears in ifconfig, but without an ip address. I tried manually assigning it an ip, broadcast, and netmask, and ifconfig registers the change, but if I try to ssh to the device I always get "Connection Refused".
I'm stumped. I'm kindof a newbie at this, I've been running Gentoo a few months but haven't had to get my fingers into anything like this yet. If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. The community around Familiar is pretty scarce (long live Gentoo!).

Correction, now it's no longer registering in ifconfig at all.
If I reset the device and put it in the cradle before the OS initializes, it seems to get a little farther. It doesn't freeze on the device like before, and dmesg on the desktop says:
dmesg wrote: | usb0: unregister usbnet usb-0000:00:10.1-2, Linux Device
usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 4
usb 3-2: device not accepting address 4, error -110
usb 3-2: new full speed USB device using address 5
usb 3-2: device not accepting address 5, error -110 |
I don't think it will help, but I'll try recompiling the kernel and modules, just in case I fouled something up trying to get it to work.

I'm currently starting to look at the possibility to make an usb network with my new ipaq but did you do that before loading the ipaq on the cradle :
That could help and maybe it is the reason it doesn't work or freeze the ipaq.
[edit] Check this link too. I made it work under windows xp so I'm sure there is a possibility in linux (espacially gentoo hehehe)
