This is the biggest headache I have ever gone through. I hope it is really worth it.
i can emerge the vanilla source just fine. But I am haveing major problems with GRUB. I dont get any errors emerging it and configing it but when I try to boot the sys it freezes on the GRUB command. any ideas?
also i try to add the source for my SBLive (emerge emu10k1) and it gets through like 6 of the 17 or so packages and tries to go on the internet ... for a networkless install is the SBLive pack really important? _________________ "In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti." |

if you are using a 2.6.x kernel the emu10k1 is not important, everything you need should be in the kernel. About grub, I don't know, try searching, there is a lot of grub stuff on the forums _________________ I think that the forums are the greatest thing about Gentoo, thanks to everyone that posts on them!

Can't you put the package for the 2.6.x kernel on a cd using a computer with internet, and then use the package to install it on your gentoo box, I'm not sure how to do that, but I'm sure it can be done. _________________ I think that the forums are the greatest thing about Gentoo, thanks to everyone that posts on them!

You can change kernels whenever, you don't have to have your system up. But I assume that having a running computer is more important than having sound working, so yeah, get your box up and running, and then worry about getting little stuff to work. _________________ I think that the forums are the greatest thing about Gentoo, thanks to everyone that posts on them!
