This seems to be a pretty major bug/misconfiguration/whatever. And, I really don't know where to start...
I have all sorts of things installed on my Gentoo box, and everything works great. However, after a period of time, the error message that I have pasted below will appear on the console, and then NOTHING having to do with networking will work. I can't ssh to the box, I can't telnet to ports 25, 80, 110, or 143 on the box, I can't connect to the mysql on the box. Nothing.... It's like all that is network has died.
IIRC, I believe that if I run /etc/init.d/eth.net0 restart, then everything begins working again.
I don't know if Spamassasin is to blame, or if its just the only program that complains about the error.
Here's the message (line numbers and test names change each time the error occurs, so it doesn't seem to be tied to any particular SpamAssasin test):
Failed to run NO_DNS_FOR_FROM SpamAssassin test,
