Alright. I have recently did a fresh install of gentoo. I had gentoo kernel 2.6.4 on the machine before. I did a fresh install with gentoo kernel 2.6.5 and my network card does not work.
In 2.6.4 - i selected the 3c59x under 3com cards in the menuconfig.
In 2.6.5 - i selected the 3c590 under 3com cards in the menuconfig.
I noticed that these were different and that more 3com cards had been added. The 3c59x was no longer and option in the kernel 2.6.5.
With the 3c590, i booted up and i would get failed to load up eth0
when i do an ifconfig -a , eth0 is not even under this category. I cannot do a modprobe of 3c59x because it is no longer located that way for some reason.
It worked in 2.6.4, but i cannot get it to work in 2.6.5
The module is definitely 3c59x for the 3c450 or that is how i had it working! |

Is it a module or do you have it compiled into the kernel?
That may explain if you cant modprobe it etc... |
