I always thought it was default behaviour that icons for applications only appeared the next time I logged on to Gnome in the Gnome menu after emerging them. But recently at work I installed Debian, and noticed they appear immediately in the menu. Can this behaviour be changed?

Thanks, turned out I already had this installed but added fam to the runlevel which always gave me an error, just found out I had to start famd, and not fam. So 2 problems solved with one question, not bad eh :)
