Hello fellow Gentoo-ers,
After spending a day tweaking with the CFLAGS and finally getting my kernel to boot, I find myself sitting in front of the bash prompt and wondering, "what now" (besides the hundreds of ebuilds to install)
How do I quantitatively determine whether the tweaks I performed are good or bad? Is there any kind of benchmarking tool that you guys use? Or is it largely a subjective thing?
Obviously I realize that benchmarking one PC against another is silly, because of the different CPU/memory/etc. architectures involved. But I would like to benchmark my PC against itself with different kernels, CFLAGS, etc. etc.
Thanks! |

You might be interested in reading the Linux Benchmarking HOWTO. I don't know of a gentoo specific document or tool. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
