Annoying, isn't it? :-P

Code:
table Icon
  Caption:
  Command: ooffice
  Icon: /usr/local/share/icons/AquaFusion/64x64/apps/ooffice.png
  X: 699
  Y: 930
end

I don't believe in Captions. ;-)

As the website is down, I'll post my two patches ( lockable icons / transparency ) in here.

This post has been superceded by later ones / patch unification.

Chris has said this will go into the next version of iDesk. Yay me. :-)

It's a big diff, sadly, as emacs chewed on his formatting.

http://homepages.ihug.com.au/~alana/files/idesk/idesk-glow-0.3.diff

Apply it with patch -p1 to your idesk sources, and rebuild. Keep in mind the gentoo sources are already patched during the ebuild on bugzilla.

Add a "Transparency" clause to your .ideskrc, between 0 and 255.

Code:
table Config
  FontName: tahoma
  FontSize: 8
  FontColor: #ffffff
  PaddingX: 35
  PaddingY: 25
  Locked: true
  Transparency: 150
end

I will post a screenie in the desktop thread soon.

( The locked clause applies to another of my patches, which is on the iDesk / my website )

Thanks Courios, you transparency-patch works great! :)

How is it possible to use both transparency-patch and your lock-patch together?

Um, oops.

At the moment they don't apply cleanly, because the Transparancy patch is a really ugly one - I had trouble with diff correctly identifying the problem areas. :?

At the moment, I'd suggest merging the glow patch in, and then merging the locking patch by hand. There's not much to it, 22 lines or so, and most of that can be copy-and-pasted from the patch.

I will either come up with a unified patch tonight OR try and improve the glow patch to not be so messy OR wait and rewrite the lock patch for 0.4, as the transparancy code is being merged into 0.4.

Glad you liked it!

*guilty look* I actually spent my weekend coding hours writing an XScreensaver module. ;-) But I will try and unify those patches tomorrow night / tonight. I can't give you an ETA on 0.4, unfortunately, because Chris is not answering his mails either - I hope he hasn't hurt himself skateboarding. And I haven't even started looking at the SVG icons / { mount | unmount } device stuff I said I would yet. I've been pretty busy, which must explain how scant I've been around the forums. :-)

But I will look into it soon, I promise!

P.S. Your desktop is very nice indeed!

Alright, I've unified the patches, put them on my webpage, and posted a comment on freshmeat. Go nuts, folks. Let me know if they give you any grief ( apart from the patch being massively oversize ).

And Ivan, I apologise for misidentifying your desktop above. It looks really nice though!

hi everyone

bear with me as I'm pure n00b - I've been shamelessly trying to emulate kappax's desktop using the files he selflessly posted

for the life of me I can't get the wmapps and bbpager to spring up when flux loads - it's like my slit list is ignored

my thoughts are:

1. I use gdm as a login so no .xinitrc

2. I'm doing something wrong with the slitlist - should I use exec in front or put the -w & after the docapps?

3. do I need a bbtools folder in my /usr/share/commonbox/fluxbox folder?

4 should I be using bbpager.nobb as it's flux?

thanks for any replies

hi

The slitlist file only specifies the position of your dockable apps. You also have to start them before launching fluxbox.
If you are using gdm, you could edit /etc/X11/Sessions/fluxbox like this:
Code:
exec bbpager -w &
exec fluxbox

hey sandro

thanks for the reply

I edited the Sessions file as you suggested and also added my wmdockapps in there (bad idea?)

for some reason the bbpager wants to go vertical even though in kappax's init it is horizontal :?

any thoughts (should it be bbpager.nobb?)

thanks again

bbpager.nobb should be located in /usr/share/bbtools.
To force loading /usr/share/bbtools/bbpager.nobb it can be launched with

exec bbpager -n -w &

thanks sandro

I am almost there

should I launch all the other doc apps in gdm sessions or just confine them to the slitlist?

Start them in the session file, similar to bbpager. Later if you don't like the dockapps' position you can change this in your slitlist.

ps.: More and more this thread gets OT...

no you do not want to use bbpager.nobb use the normal bbpager config file, but do this
ln -s .fluxbox/init .blackboxrc in your home dir

to get the things in the order you want, edit the slitlist, put the names of the files you want in the order you want,

afterdoing this ln -s .fluxbox/init .blackboxrc it should auto color to the theme, then if you are using the bbpager.nobb you will need to switch to the bbpager.bb
