well here i am... a linux newb. i have two comps. 1 laptop that runs gentoo as we speak and one desktop that runs win xp pro. I put gentoo on my laptop so i could get a feel for it and i think im gonna stick with it. but i was unsure about what i shud do about my desktop. the only thing holding me back from running linux on it is that im a gamer and im not sure if there will be problems with gaming on linux? shud i keep my dekstop on windows for gaming and use gentoo on my laptop only? or should i run gentoo on both machines? |

You can have both Windows and Gentoo on your desktop PC. That way you can switch to windows whenever you want to play games. |

i also dint feel like dual booting cuz then id have to get those damn winxp disc out and shiot which i find really annoying with their whole activation thing where if u dont activate it goes away in 30 days last time i actually ended up calling them which was really lame.
i was just wondering if it was even necessary to dual boot and if i could get along with running just gentoo and not have to give up any games. |

Only a tiny bit, because windows will have less diskspace to use as virtual memory.
You shouldn't notice a thing under normal curcomstances.
Gaming is also very possible under linux. Take a look at WineX. www.transgaming.com
They have a free CVS version |

Gaming is possible but it won't be as good as it is on Windows. If you have WinXP installed already you don't really need a disc. Just partition your HD with PartitionMagic or anything that preserves the data. You won't have to reinstall WinXP in that case |

not necessarily true. if u know how to use ur windows you can change the swap file from being dynamic to being static. that way the size never changes. _________________ John5788 |
