I hava a 80 gb maxtor hard disk, about 6 month old, it stated a couple of weeks ago to tell me a lot of "input/output error". Since last week, I can't even boot windows from it, gentoo is installed on an other drive. I tried to delete all the partitions and re-do them, still does the same, windows installation cannot be completed. I decided to create a Maxblast 3 boot disk to do a zero-fill to the drives. When I do it, it's fine until it reaches 6%, at this point, it stop, the drive works like mad and nothing moves, I have to do ctrl+alt+del to restart the computer.
Is my hard drive dead? I had 2 other maxtor drives, one 8 gb that is almost 5 years old and it's still running good, an other 2 years old 20 gb that is also running good, why would mine stop working after 6 month?
