For those that need it, here's 2.6.5-love5. I removed v30b from this release, it doesn't compile with SMP enabled. I put it online for those that want to try and apply it and don't have a need for SMP. It doesn't apply cleanly, but the rejects are easy to fix.

I am really wanting to try this out, yet I don't know how to make my own ebuilds or add them to the portage for that matter. Could anyone direct me to the doc or the thread that talks about it? I have looked for a bit and haven't really had any luck. _________________ Jonny5

Normally I'd be all for testing, but I'm going to Rome tomorrow and I don't want the system to go nuts while I'm away. Plus, 2.6.6-rc1 is out which means the -mm won't be far behind. _________________ There is no substitute for experience.

It is simple:
1. cd /usr/portage/sys-kernel
2. mkdir love-sources
3. cd love-sources
4. Grab the ebuild from the link provided and download it to the love-sources directory (Check steel300's sig)
5. ebuild love-sources-2.6.5-r5.ebuild digest
6. emerge love-sources-2.6.5-r5.ebuild
7. The love-sources kernel patchset should be availble at /usr/src/
You will lose the love-sources directory in /usr/portage when you emerge sync again. Some guys move it to another directory.
I hope I got this right. This is what I have been doing. _________________ My Company: Hakata Consulting |

I have a very n00b question: how is that 2.6.5-love5 is 574K and 2.6.5-mm6 has 1,9M, although love5 includes mm6? _________________ gentoo.ro |

It applies on top of mm. It's the new way I'm handling ebuilds. Technically, love includes mm, but I prefer to patch it on top of mm. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

So, it's better to apply the mm patch first and then love, right?
Is there any difference if i use mm4-broken-out or mm?
And another question: Let's say i have patched the kernel with love4. When I want to patch it with love5 too, I have to reinstall the sources? I ask that because whenever I do this, it's asking me something about "previous patch, apply? , ignore? ". What should I do? _________________ gentoo.ro |

It patches on top of mm6. Patch up to mm6, then apply the love patch. Or use the ebuild. If you want to upgrade, you need to start wit ha clean tree. There currently isn't a way to patch directly from love4-love5. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

I couldn't get fglrx to load. I believe that last time I copied fglrx.ko from /usr/modules/kernelversion/video. I did the same last time and i could modprobe fglrx, but this time it didn't work period. No doubt I did something else last time in addition, but I was just dicking around don't remember. Performance was poor anyway.
I am using the Xorg wrapper without incident.
What does Kernel Internal Timer Frequency do? I really have looked and had no luck. Currently I have it at 100. _________________ Athlon xp 1700+;VIA-KT266;512mb RAM;Radeon 9600

Set it to 1000 unles you get "Lost timer interrupt" errors in dmesg. _________________ Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it. |

To make it so that it doesn't get clobbered with a sync, do the following:
1. Create a directory of your choosing to serve as your local portage tree. I recommend /usr/local/portage.
Code: | mkdir /usr/local/portage |
2. Create a subdirectory from there to house love-sources.
Code: | mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources |
3. Download the ebuild into that directory.
4. Proceed with step 5 of the above directions.
8. Enjoy. _________________ Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane.

hi,
since love4 i'm experiencing again those annoying hardlocks. Did you remove some nforce2-patches or something in the last two releases?
I'll set pci=noacpi again n try if it gets stable, but normally i would like to use acpi
Maybe s/o has a hint what to do, but the old love-sources have proved stable for me, the new ones don't; and i didn't change my config. |

Hi,
I'd just like to clarify the process for love kernel installation.
love5 patchs mm ; mm5 patches gentoo-sources 2.6.5
Does this mean I need to explicitly emerge the gentoo-sources then emerge mm5 then emerge love5 or is this all taken care of by emerge love-sources?
I have been using love for a couple of months and find it great, but I have been unable to get my USB scanner working. I thought maybe I had not correctly installed love-sources.
Thanks. |

Gentree-
The ebuild for love-sources takes care of all of this.
You should run the command 'ebuild /usr/local/portage/sys-kernel/love-sources/love-sources-2.6.5-r5.ebuild digest'
and this will download the necessary kernel, mm, and love patches and digest them.
Now you can do emerge love-sources and all is taken care of. |

Running love5 and reniced Xorg, very fast as usual.
I'm quite content to have switched over to love-sources as of a few weeks ago.
Thanks steel300. |

@steel300
Ahem, I think i am too stupid to resolve the rejects when adding v30b ontop of love5. Some numbers are simply different eg struct members, so I dunno whetehr to leave them or to use them from the patch. Could you be so nice and upload patched include/linux/sched.h and kernel/sched.c ? |

Steel since your still getting lot's of questions about installing the love, why not put a link to my howto on the first post, along with the changelog? It's a little hard to find nowadays. _________________ My Public Key
