o yea and when i do lsmod in my linux install it comes up with nothing at all. do i have to modprobe in livecd and recompile and replace with my old kernel image? |

Forgive my language but: that won't do jack shit.
What you need to do is this:
1) Find out what modules are loaded when you use the livecd. Write them down to keep track of it.
2) When you configure your kernel make sure to choose to include the modules that you wrote down before. NOTE: THIS MEANS YOU MUST ACTUALLY CHOOSE THOSE MODULES. For instance, if I boot up the livecd it detects my network card and loads the module. If I were to then use a default kernel and forget to choose the build the tulip module (it's tulip since I'm using a Linksys card) then upon starting my computer my network card would be useless. No amount of modprobes will correct this, as I'd be probing for a non-existant module.

Run "make menuconfig"
On the different modules you want to have loaded move the cursor down to it and hit the "m" key.
You can also get info on each module by moving the cursor over to "help" and it'll display info. |
