|
|
I have a really simple (but nooby) question. Bittornado is locking my machine up hard after a few minutes of downloading a file. I have tried several different clients (bittorrent, qtorrent, bittornado, etc) and the gui, curses and headless variations. All have the same result - after 2 - 5 minutes, the machine just locks up. I have tried running top and looking at the resources, but nothing jumps out at me. mem is only 300 mb out of 1 gb, processor is not really moving (I have a 3200+). That leaves the NIC.
I am running 2.6.5 r1, with the R8169 driver compiled as a module.
Any ideas? |

get the vanilla 2.6.6-rc1 kernel it has patches for that network card (i used to have same problems)
the system will crash when there is alot of outgoing traffic.
vanilla-2.6.6 seams to work very good i havnt seen any crashes
like on 2.6.4 or 2.6.5 |

Try
Code: | btdownloadcurses.py your_favorite_torrent.torrent |
If this crashes, then you know it is a bittorrent issue.
BTW, I use btdownloadcurses.py for all my downloads. Very configurable, takes almost no resources. |

I dont think that this is a bittorrent problem as i previously said i hade similar problem and i pinpointed it to kernel driver. |

thanks for the tip Phanlord. I'll try that tonight. is it a simple
emerge development-sources-2.6.6_rc1.ebuild
to get the sources - do I need to patch anything else?
I agree with you that it is network related - all three bittorrent methods die at the same time curses, headless and gui. |

dont know are there any gentoo-dev-sources for 2.6.6 available but im using vanilla-sources 2.6.6-rc1
emerge it, compile new kernel, install it, reboot and you are set
(not as simple as emerge only but its not as complicated as it sounds |

I finally got around to upgrading to 2.6.6 rc2 and that did the trick. No more lockups with bittorrent.
Thanks Phanlord. |
