How do I find out what the network card is listed as? Just thought I would make sure it was Eth0...
I can't get a connection...It was listed as Eth0 and was detected right away on the LiveCD...Just can't seem to get it to work now..
Its a router(staticIP/192.168.1.100)(broadcast/****?)(netmask/255.255.255.0)connected to a cable modem(DHCP)
Thanks for your Suggestions!!!

That information can be found with the command dmesg
Try: dmesg | grep eth |

I get nothing when I try that...Probably cause it can't detect my network card...The LiveCD found it even to the brand(broadcom 440)
can I load the drivers from the LiveCD?
Thanks

It seems, I've read the other thread too, that you're missing the correct module ("driver" in Windows-speak). A google search has revealed that the driver you're interested in is called b44.o, so you should try the following:
As root, write "modprobe b44" (no quotes, of course). If you get an error message, post it here. If not, you should now be able to see the interface when you issue the command "ifconfig", and you should be able to configure it just fine. To make it come up every time, add it to the list of modules that are started at boot up for your kernel. |

It's supposed to be in the kernel, so you might have to recompile one for your system -- then you'll be able to modprobe it.
The RTC thing is most likely not related, it's related to the computer's internal clock (RTC=real time clock).
A good way to learn about linux's features is actually to compile a custom kernel -- not only is it something you'll end up having to do sooner or later, but you can also find out what features are supported. Go to kernel.org, get the latest kernel you feel like trying out and then go nuts with the HOWTO to guide you in your quest for knowledge! ![Very Happy :D](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |
