looking up ntpl now :-)

looks good

i'm going for it.....

It doesn't decrease the amount of threads running - just they will show up as one process, rather than multiple processes as without NPTL.

as long as i run some servers here (apache, ssh, vsftp, samba), this is normal i think. And fvwm also got quite a number of procs running (13).

109!?
surely that can't be right! Better logout and check...
...
Nope its still over 100 (after logging back into kde)... I'm sure glad this ain't a windows machine!
...
Now its up to 136! (during two simulaneous merges)

(On a side note): load avg: 6.40 4.15 3.90 -- and kde is still perfectly responsive! Not bad for my old duron 900... Ahh the wonders of the 2.6 kernel!

Umm.. right. The kernel here and whatever else its running uses more then 10. (Or at least I assume its the kernel)

Average for me is 50-70. atm its 49.

Code:
init-+-4*[agetty]
     |-apache2---6*[apache2]
     |-bdflush
     |-cron
     |-devfsd
     |-kapmd
     |-keventd
     |-khubd
     |-kiswapd
     |-kjournald
     |-kreiserfsd
     |-ksoftirqd_CPU0
     |-kswapd
     |-kupdated
     |-login---bash---startx---xinit-+-X
     |                               `-sh---fvwm2-+-FvwmButtons
     |                                            |-FvwmPager
     |                                            |-xterm---bash---opera---opera
     |                                            |-xterm---bash---su---bash
     |                                            `-xterm---bash---pstree
     |-login---bash
     `-syslog-ng

(just discovered pstree 8O)

Heh, I have 70 at the moment. Running GNOME 2.7.1, four or five gnome-terminals, epiphany, vncviewer, pan and a few Nautilus windows.

With nptl, of course. ;)

I think that it would depend on what the system is being used for no? On my gentoo desktop system Id say that typically I have under 50.
