I want to get an initial date from an ntp server during boot, but since the /etc/init.d/ntp-client script is started before adsl, i never can connect to an ntp server. Does this seem right ? I tried changing the dependencies in the /etc/init.d/script, but this moves certain other services to the wrong position. I don't want to change all the dependencies just so that ntp-client is started after the adsl link is brought up.... As far as i know, the ntpd server just corrects a small drift, but when you're more than, let's say a day, off the ntp server date it refuses to correct the time. So for me the logical order would be:
1. bring up the adsl link
2. get initial date via ntp-client
3. start the ntpd server to correct small drifts
Like i said, everything is in order except the ntp-client should be started after adsl...... |

When I removed mij net.eth0 from my default runlevel, it still started, because of the dependencys whit sshd. But some other services started to early (als ntp-client). So mabey you did not add the service properly and now u have scrued dependencys.
If you are sure the dependencys are wrong and figured it out, u should report a bug. |
