Since a few days, my synaptics mouse pad is no longer reliable. The mouse cursor is often suddently at the screen border. dmesg shows the following errors:

Code:
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver resynced.
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver resynced.
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver resynced.
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Synaptics driver resynced.

Every few seconds the mouse cursors gets distorted and this makes working a real pain. I'm using X.Org X-Server with KDE 3.2.1 and 2.6.5 kernel.

I don't know if that is related: If keyboard key-repeat starts, it sometimes wont stop after the key is released again. The key will continue to repeat until the next key is pressed.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

What kind of notebook do you have? maybe its an older one. Do you use an PS/2 mouse as alternative, i have had the problem with xfree when the PS/2 mouse was not plugged in.

Also:
- do you have an application polling your battery status? Try to increase polling interval.
- do you see "psmouse.c: Bad data from KBC" messages in your dmesg?

It is a Acer TracelMate C110, a 1000Mhz Pentium-M Tablet-PC Notebook.

I do not use an external mouse, but X has two mouse interfaces: one for the synaptics touchpad, and one for the touch-screen (a tablet PC basically implements a WACOM serial tablet as second input medium).

Also if I use the pen for position instead of synaptics pad, the mouse cursor sometimes goes to the low-end border of the screen and then on next sync back where it is supposed to be.

I disabled battery status poling. Currently I think it got a bit better, but there are still every few seconds tons of:

Code:
Apr 19 16:43:23 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Apr 19 16:43:23 tsogyal Synaptics driver resynced.
Apr 19 16:43:25 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Apr 19 16:43:25 tsogyal Synaptics driver resynced.
Apr 19 16:43:36 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Apr 19 16:43:36 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Apr 19 16:43:36 tsogyal Synaptics driver resynced.
Apr 19 16:43:40 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 4
Apr 19 16:43:40 tsogyal Synaptics driver resynced.
Apr 19 16:43:40 tsogyal Synaptics driver lost sync at byte 1
Apr 19 16:43:40 tsogyal Synaptics driver resynced.

There is no message like "Bad data from KBC" in dmesg or /var/log/messages.

No, that's me... instead of "disabled battery polling" I have read that you increated the polling interval. -ENOCOFFEE

Yeah, I have this too, but I haven't done much with the touchpad setup. Let me mess around with it a bit and see if I can come up with anything.
