HP Notebook vs Gentoo

I am truly puzzled by the fact that, on my Gateway desktop box, the latest Live CD boots & purportedly activates the ieee1394 port --which is nonexistent, btw-- but on the HP ze5570us notebook --which as an ieee1394-- the boot seems to lock up solid to the point that I have to use the reset.

I have tried the 'dofirewire' option and the only difference seems to be that the CD can be ejected ...which may mean the box isn't locked but it hans at the hdwe detection.

Any ideas very much appreciated.

try going into bios (F2 on bootup) and set "Legacy USB support" to false or off.

next try noacpi option on the gentoo boot (press F2 on the gentoo boot screen to see the correct option)
