I upgraded my qmail installation from 1.03-r10 to 1.03-r13, but after the install and restarting the services, the qmail-remote program kept crashing when sending mail. Receiving mail works just fine. After reinstalling r10, everything was back to normal. Has anyone else seen this? _________________ Gentoo x86

I'm using 1.03-r13 without any difficulty, and haven't heard of anything like this before. What do the logs say? _________________ Proud to be a... eh, forget it.

The only error I can find is in the qmail-send log, here it is:
@400000004083df910a2392cc status: local 0/10 remote 0/20
@400000004083e1220a543404 starting delivery 29: msg 7964 to remote lthurman@northwestern.edu
@400000004083e1220a54dfe4 status: local 0/10 remote 1/20
@400000004083e1220e12803c delivery 29: deferral: qmail-remote_crashed./
I didn't spend much time looking into what might be the problem since this is exactly what happened when I upgraded to r12. I spent several hours trying to work through that one only to downgrade to r10. _________________ Gentoo x86

I have qmail 1.03-r13 running on a G3-upgraded 7300, so it is possible to get working, even on an old PowerMac.
If you're handy with strace and other such debugging tools, you might want to try giving them a run. Attaching strace to the running qmail-rspawn process, with child process monitoring enabled, will capture a trace of qmail-remote.
If that's not your cup of tea, browse Gentoo's Bugzilla and see if there have been any bug reports that describe what you're experiencing. If not, file one. Remember to be liberal with your available information: hardware, kernel version, glibc version, qmail version, USE flags and compiler optimizations, qmail's configuration files (/var/qmail/control/), and so forth. _________________ Proud to be a... eh, forget it.
