Hello!

I have trouble with very slow programms loading on my PC:
*CPU: AMD Barton 2500+ @ 3200+;
*RAM: Kingston 512MB DDR400 CL2.5 (dual);
*MB: Epox 8RDA3I nForce2 Ultra 400;
*HDD: Maxtor DiamondMax +9 80GB 7200rpm 2MB cache;
*VGA: Palit Daytona GeForce FX 5200 128MB 128bit;

MozillaFirefox loads ~6 seconds and ~3 seconds at second run! KDE3.2.1 loads 10 seconds, konqueror 1-2 seconds, kmail - 3 seconds and same with any other programms.

Same problem on second PC with Epox 8RDA3+ nForce2 ST;

I was tried lots of Linux kernels: 2.4.22 -> 2.6.5 ...

Code:

USE="-samba gd libgd gd-external gphoto2 xml X -gtk opengl avi gpm mpeg xv videos 3dnow mmx jpeg usb xmms quicktime cups sse postgres gtk2 -gnome2 -gnome kde -ipv6 -cdr mysql truetype -doc qt xft qt-mt oss pic -alsa chroot"

CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu"
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86"

Please help me to find solution.

With Respect, sh

Have you enabled DMA?

Try to add
Code:

-fomit-frame-pointer

to your CFLAGS, then try to recompile & test several programs whether there is any change or not.

Hope that will help.

It did't help... And i have enabled DMA (and tried other options...)

When i am copying, deleting, extracting, etc. files, my mouse pointer and aniamations freezes... maybe while program ir loading, it uses too much HDD un these HDD-access lags are slowing program loading?

P.S. Sorry for my bad english :)

Strange. I'm running P4 2.4 with 512 MB RAM, and everything is working fine (well, honestly I haven't got my ATI working well yet). Maybe you misconfigured your kernel. Probably I'm a bit biased here since I'm running Fluxbox, instead of KDE.

I also experienced jumpy cursors during heavy process, such as compiling, but later I found the right kernel config, everything has been running since that time.
