How to find out the speed of my ppp connection??

It should get reported in your syslog, assuming your modem init strings are telling the modem to report actual speed when it connects.

Which file that information actually ends up in depends on which system logger you're using. I use metalog, for example, and it ends up in /var/log/everything/current for me.
