|

Hi!
I have a system based on 1.4-rc1 liveCD, and I have kernel 2.6.6-rc1 from development-sources. The machine has a HFC PCI isdn-card, hisax type=35.
I had problems trying to make the ISDN card work. I installed isdn4k-utils, and edited all necessary configuration files, and ran into varying problems.
I created some device nodes manually, and I think that helped me a bit, but still I couldn't make it work.
- I want to know, theoretically, is it possible to make hisax work with devfs, or is there a conflict that can't be resolved?
- Would I be at all better off trying Gentoo's udev and devfs combination?
- Or would I have any luck with pure udev and no devfs?
"/etc/init.d/isdn4linux start" says [ ok ]
I have manually created isdnctrl0, isdnctrl1 and isdninfo devices. isdnctrl is a link to isdnctrl0. I also created a /dev/isdn directory with ippp0..2, which are links to /dev/ippp0..2 - which are the actual device nodes.
"/etc/init.d/net.ippp0 start" says:
Sorry - this system lacks PPP kernel support.
Check whether you configured at least the ippp0 device!
I have configured /etc/ppp/options.ippp0
I have a iface_ippp0 line in /etc/conf.d/net
I have also checked isdn.conf
isdnctrl accepts most commands, and allows adding interfaces to its configuration, and configuring interfaces, but "isdnctrl dial ippp0" results in "ippp0: invalid argument"
ppp modules are, of course, all loaded and ready. |

Hei
Not a lot of isdn expertise around.. I had a similar error to your
"Sorry - this system lacks PPP kernel support.
Check whether you configured at least the ippp0 device! "
and sure enough on checking my config-2.4-24 file I found that CONFIG_ISDN_DRV_HISAX had not been set..
Am about to re-compile it in.
regards
EDIT: The re-compile was easy, but it didn't solve the above problem... how can ISDN be so difficult in Gentoo, when its so easy with Knoppix?! |
