I'm wondering if I need to fix this. When I do a 'cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status' I get this...

Code:
bash-2.05b# cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status
Status:               Enabled
Driver:                AGPART
AGP Rate:          8x
Fast Writes:        Disabled
SBA:                  Disabled

Shouldn't Fast Writes and SBA be enabled?

Geforce 4 MX 440, 64 mb, 8x agp on P4 2.6 HT, 512 mb ram...

Thanks

From /etc/modules.conf:

# To tweak the driver the following options can be used, note that
# you should be careful, as it could cause instability!!
#
# To enable Side Band Adressing: NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1
#
# To enable Fast Writes: NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1
#
# To enable both for instance, uncomment following line:
#
options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1

Thanks.. I did that and rebooted and the changes I made to the file were unchanged again... Tried again and the same thing... when I reboot and look at the file, it's back to the way it was before... What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

I think you need to run modules-update after you make the change. Or maybe its update-modules..

I loathe both of these commands because they don't support '--help' functionality, and actually perform their work anyway if you give them that argument. That kind of behaviour should be standardized.. anyway, this isn't the place for this rant. :)

Here's the full nvidia section of my modules.conf:
Code:
# Nvidia drivers support
alias char-major-195 nvidia
alias /dev/nvidiactl char-major-195

# To tweak the driver the following options can be used, note that
# you should be careful, as it could cause instability!!
#
#   To enable Side Band Adressing:  NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1
#
#   To enable Fast Writes: NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1
#
# To enable both for instance, uncomment following line:
#
options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1

I change my modules.conf to enable fast writes and SBA, but no matter if i run modules-update or update-modules afterwards, it still changes back. Any ideas why?

Also, both modules-update and update-modules run and give absolutely zero feedback as to what they are doing. I have no idea what these commands do.

the file you should be changing is:

/etc/modules.d/nvidia

_not_ the modules.conf

D'oh yeah thanks I worked that out right after I posted, since all modules-update does is cat all the configs in /etc/modules.d/ into one file.

/me bangs head off desk
