Hi
I want my aterm to be transparent. I works but I can't get it to fade.
If I write "aterm -tr -sh 50" the background becomes all black. If I only have "aterm -tr" then it becomes transparent, but then I can really see what I writing =)
I had it working on earlier version of fluxbox but not on this one (0.9.8).

Anybody recognizes this?
Thanx for any reply

Play with percentage of transparency and shading. Here's what I use for 1600 resolution:

Code:
aterm -transparent -shading 30 -loginShell -foreground white -fn -misc-fixed-bold-r-normal--18-120-100-100-c-90-iso10646-1

:o Yeah, my eyes are getting old, but I still like to push 1600 resolution for the extra desktop space. If I don't use a font this big, I have to strain too much to see it.

Did you compile aterm with the USE variable of slang? It may be USE="-slang" or USE="slang". I forget. But I remember having to do something like that.

how do you set your background?

on my old redhat system i couldn't get transparency to work if i set my background with the (old version) fbsetbg (fluxbox) command (which i believe uses Esetroot or similar ..).

I don't see what you mean. It looks the same as any other transparent session.

yes, it matters what program you use to set your background. use fbsetbg to set your background as fbsetbg chooses from a list of programs that can set the background and uses the best one. the one at the top of the list is feh. it supports aterm transparency, menu transparency, and is small and fast.
so simple solution is to emerge feh, and then use fbsetbg and it should start working
