I know that the ebuild managers will release the latest GNOME and KDE when the ebuilds are ready. However, I was curious as to how long that usually is on average. I know that GNOME 2.6 was released over a month ago, and they have released an update to that already. KDE 3.2.2 was released about eight days ago. I know I could just accept ~x86, but I'm trying to keep my system clean, as it is my work box. This is not meant to upset anyone, I was just curious if there were any estimates. Thanks for all of the hard work! |

Generally, they mark it stable when it is deemed to be stable. GNOME 2.6 and KDE 3.1 (if I remember right), had some problems when they came out, so they weren't marked stable until ready. KDE 3.2.2 also had two bugs that caused some severe problems, but the maintainers patched it up and deemed it was stable enough. _________________ what up |

Kde 3.2.2 not shown as stable on my last sync. Did I miss something? _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |

shm, thanks for the reply, but kde 3.2.2 is not marked as stable at the moment. Maybe you mean kde 3.2.1. I actually have kde 3.2.1 installed. However, I want to upgrade as there are certain things fixed in kde 3.2.2 that I could start taking advantage of, including other bug fixes. I just would rather it not be over a month like gnome 2.6. |

From the portage man-page:
Quote: | /etc/portage/
package.keywords
Per package KEYWORDS. Useful for mixing unstable pack-
ages in with a normally stable machine or vice versa.
This will allow you to override ACCEPT_KEYWORDS.
Format:
- comments begin with #
- one DEPEND atom per line followed by the KEYWORDS
Example:
# always use unstable libgd
media-libs/libgd ~x86
# only use stable mplayer
media-video/mplayer x86 |
That could perhaps be something... That will only use the "unstable" versions of the packages you specify. |
