OK, here's where I am:
1> Loaded from Stage1, with the USE="-alsa" flag in make.conf.
2> Sound Support is compiled into the kernel, OSS is a module, the emu10k1 is neither.
3> ran emerge emu10k1-audigy
4> added emu10k1 to modules.autoload
5> modified the /etc/audigy/emu10k1.conf so that CARD_IS_5.1=YES and ENABLE_TONE_CONTROL=YES.
After that, I rebooted, and the EMU10K1 module failed to load on bootup... :\
So, I added "alias sound emu10k1" to audigy under /etc/modules.d and ran update-modules.
Still no go, no mixer is available, etc, but oddly, KDE no longer gives the error dealing with being unable to access a sound device...
Help? Please? This is the last, last thing I need to be a really happy Lunix user... |

I dimly remember reading somewhere that only ALSA supports surround sound?
Or was that only a dream?

Hey, i want to know what the UT2k3 Live-cd demo cd uses to get my sound going? My card is a Audigy XGamer and UT2k3 on the live-cd got my speakers to do surround sound. Unfortunately i can't get it to run with sound in my install of 1.4 RC1.
My box:
AMD XP 2200+
2 80 GB Hd's
Audigy XGamer
PNY TI4600 128MB
256MB PC2100 RAM
can anyone help me out? |

I think you should refer to Bug #6672 regarding updating the audigy driver ebuild.
Currently the emu10k1-audigy ebuild uses ancient drivers, thus the probelms with surround sound etc. Getting updated drivers should help get that working. |

Well, mine worked great using the steps outlined in the first post of this thread, as long as you add a step at the end that adds your username to the AUDIO group. If you have issues, AIM to RFOKKER001 |

Cool, that looks like it might be a good fix, but whenever I click to download the attachment, my browser just wants to download ATTACHMENT.CGI. I can't get the actual file... :\ |

Attachments from the bugs page dont work for me either, I am not sure why.
But, the easiest way to get the latest drivers is to download from the sourceforge site, and compile them. They should compile ok, but you will need to remember to move the relevant files to where Gentoo is expecting them. |
