Whenever I try running xine it loads up the display window as well as the GUI menu but then it freezes. I can't CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE out of X, nor can I CTRL+ALT+DEL. Have to hard reboot. Any ideas? I have a S3 Savage4 chipset if that helps. |

I often have this problem when I forget to close a program that has control of the sound card (such as my CD player or XMMS). Hope that helps. |

Take a look at this website for Savage drivers (I don't know if it is your case).
I have a SuperSavage IX and I'm using Tim's drivers, perfect video with Xv and 16bpp. |

I have similar problems using spdif output on ALSA with a Soundblaster Live! I switch to OSS emulation and everything is fine (no 5.1, though). It must be a XINE issue as mplayer can do spdif with no problems.
