I do not know how something like this would be accomplished, but would it be possible to build into the emerge:
A. Progress Bar
B. Estimated Time to Completion?
My thought for the day. |

it's hard to tell how long something is going to take to emerge. It all depends on your make.conf and your personal computer. I don't know if there is a way to have a progress bar or anything. I'm sure that if there was an easy way to do it there would be an estimated time or somthing already with the emerge progress. _________________ I think that the forums are the greatest thing about Gentoo, thanks to everyone that posts on them!

This may be rediculous (Oriellies: Most rediculous item of the day ), but:
First: Run some type of app that determines speed of proc
Second: Create estimate on number of libraries to compile and total size of app
I am not a c programmer so I do not know if this makes sense. Just a rediculous idea maybe. |

It depends on the code that's being compiled so I don't think it's possible to have a good time estimate. |

You know you can use
Code: | emerge <package> -p | genlop --pretend |
to show an estimate of time needed for the emerge. Only works if you are updating though. I believe it looks at how long it took to emerge previous instances. |

See this:
Emerge Progressbar
Its by a user called duff, I have followed the instructions and it works great - an emerge progress bar!
It installed and runs perfectly, although I have a feeling development has stopped on it.
