Hello,
I recently got gentoo working on a peecee I got. (I had been mac only prior, and gentoo was cool then, so i tried it here) It has been working great for a little under a month now, but I have run into my first major problem. I am unable to launch any audio playing apps as a normal user. If I single user in a terminal, then launch it, it works fine.
I am running fluxbox and kernel 2.6
Everytthing was working fine just a day or so ago. AFAIK/IIRC I changed nothing in those couple of days, only a reboot after emerging fluxspace, I think. Other than that, no big change. Any ideas?
Thanks a bunch!

Any error messages? Do you have arts or esd running maybe? |

Sometimes there are messages, and some times there are not. When they do come up, they are often in reference to gtk and palcing something. I am not at home right now, so please forgive me and the lack of details.
Also, mplayer works fine, sound and all, as well as gaim which makes all the IM noises fine. When I try to run xmms as a normal user, it jumps to 99% cpu usage as well. I will try to get more details when I get home.
Thanks

Is your user a memeber of the "audio" group? Check by running "groups" on command line. If you aren't in that group, you can add it with "usermod". |
