I was making an image of my system with partimage and when it was at 41% some messages came to me. Then i tried to tar my system, and i've seen them too.
They are like that ?

Code:
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
  hda: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError }, LBAsect=10892073, high=0, low=10892073, sector=1089207

What does it mean ? Is my hard drive dead ? (my computer is a dell laptop).
Thanks for you help.

deluxe,

It means that an error occured close to the end of your drive.
It may mean the following:-
1. that your drive is dying
2. that your partition table is corrupt and the failed read is an attempt to read off the end of the disc.

Do an
Code:
emerge smart -s
the emerge one of the smart tools that lets you read the data your drive collects on itself.

Computer users fall into two groups:-
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
