|
|
When installing I set the time, date and timezone per the installation instructions. I'm certain I set the time properly. Now, the time on my system is 12 hours behind. I live in New Zealand and suspect there is some issue with setting this timezone. I'm not sure if the date shifted when I set the timezone or not.
When I try to set the time propertly, I run into 'date in future' problems when compiling. I didn't deal with this problem right away, and now have quite a large, built-up system. (Thanks the help from you guys and a great distro!)
Any advice now how to deal? If I set the clock, I might just have to re-emerge sources when I need them. Is that enough? Or will there be other problems?
Thanks! |

kernelcowboy,
If this machine is *NIX only, go into the BIOS and set the time to as it would be for GMT thats London -1 hour today.
Your timezone symlink should be pointed at your real timezone file.
This will take care of timezone offset and daylight saving time, if you have that.
If you dual boot with windows, set the BIOS time to local wall clock time and the timezone symlink to the real localtime file.
Anything else, and the two OS fight over time. _________________ Regards,

You dont need to reboot into the BIOS, you can set your clock with /sbin/hwclock --systohc (after your system time is set accordingly). _________________ Please put [SOLVED] in your topic if you are a moron. |

I already did. Used to live down the road from you.
I changed the clock back 12 hours, and waited 12 hours for all the future timed files to be in the past. Haven't had any trouble. May be something is lurking. I did the hwclock --systohc too. Live and learn. |
