Hi all, I experience the following situation. I logout from KDE (KDE 3.2.0) and I am on the terminal. I do a halt and the the usual shutdown process is carried out. When all is done, a 'Power is down' message is printed but the the computer is still on. After the above message, the console is still active. Is there some extra thing I need to configure?

Thanks,

Paul.

Try adding support for power management in the kernel. That fixed it for me.

My kernel (vanilla 2.4.24 sources) has already been compiled with power management support. However neight ACPI nor APM has been enabled. Do you think I need to enable either one of the 2?

Just select Power Management support and Advanced Power Management BIOS support, that should do it, you don't have to select any of the options under it.

I don't know how stable ACPI is in 2.4 but if you have it, I would suggest enabling it INSTEAD of APM.

I had a problem with this too and it turned out to be a BIOS setting that changed the way format the BIOS expected for the power off code. Once I switched that out powering down started working, so if you're sure you've got the kernel set up properly make sure to double check your BIOS settings.

I recompiled the kernel with Advanced Power Management BIOS support as hensan suggested (without selecting any other options under it) and it worked like a charm :)
